Incineration

With the steady awareness of environmental issues, the legislation with regard to the disposal of waste products has become a major issue which has necessitated the requirement for a range of designs to control the emissions from the various products being treated. These changes have involved the incineration residence times being altered along with treatment of the resultant flue gases, the process for which requires the use of intricate refractory materials and design.

The various categories of waste require particular treatment involving different temperatures, with each type of waste having its own form of damaging attack on the lining. The various processes include Chemical Waste, Hazardous Waste, Pathological Waste Municipal Waste and Sludges. Recently specialized incinerators have been built to cope with the mounting volume of carcases created by the enforced culling brought about by the so-called ‘mad cow’ disease. All forms of refractory materials are utilised to ensure the integrity of the lining is capable of withstanding the aggressive nature of the treatments. The use of silicon carbide products is becoming beneficial due to their resistance to slag attack and excessive abrasion thus extending the life of the lining significantly.

We at Cameron Furnace Company have undertaken a number of projects in this sector over the past few years including maintenance of cremators, installing refractories in a new electric-powered cremator, maintenance of various waste incinerators and several new-build pathological waste incinerators.

We have developed specialised experience to construct Thermal Oxidisers. These refractory lined incinerators are used extensively to burn liquid or gas organic wastes. Process plant waste variations include high sulphur and chlorinated hydrocarbons, which require special linings capable of operation from intermediate to high temperatures with varying residence times. We are also able to offer advice on lining quench systems and ducts. We have been involved at every stage of the projects from design through to commissioning and at this moment in time are formulating the prototype of our own in-house design of incinerator.

Our specialist operatives are experienced in the refractory construction of multi-hearth and pulse hearth units for a diverse range of feedstock including food industry waste, sewage sludge, effluents and animal litter with many of the units incorporating refractory lined heat recovery boilers. We can offer refractory design and skilled construction experience in all types of fluidised bed furnaces.
Cameron Furnace Company has built a reputation for quality with our customers in this extremely sensitive field.
